On 3 January 1891 fire destroyed many businesses in Upper Mary Street in Gympie, Queensland. The fire broke out at around 12.30am and burnt out many neighbouring properties. According to reports there was no water to stop the fire.
Articles from newspaper reports at the time depicted the fire as “extensive” or “disastrous”.
