James Nash discovered gold in Gympie in Nash’s Gully in 1867. He was born on 5 September 1834 at Beanacre, Wiltshire, England, son of Michael Nash, farm labourer, and his wife Elizabeth. He moved to Queensland in 1863 first working in Calliope and Nanango then moving to Gympie. James married Catherine, nee Murphy on 6 July 1868. He died on 5 October 1913.
