The Gympie Civic Centre was officially opened by Queensland Premier Mr Joh Bjelke-Petersen on Thursday 13 October 1977 with the Premier stating “that is was a very special occasion in Gympie’s 110 years of progress since the Gold Rush days”. It was also reported the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser spoke with the Premier and Mayor Venardos by a special Telecom link to Canberra.
