Radio 4GY – Gympie

‘When radio was King!’

4GY was officially launched at the Olympia Theatre in Mellor Street on the Monday 3 November, 1941. There was a “full presentation” of artists from the Gympie District at the Olympia Theatre including the combined children’s choir and the Gympie Mouth Organ Band. Proceeds from the night went to the Gympie Liberty Week Fund. The original station operated from premises on Brisbane Road, Monkland. The Gympie Times was filled with local companies selling the latest and greatest radios.
