Gympie Youth Week
The video below was a originally a news clip from WBQ8 and is dated October 1966. It is of a march down Mary Street which features the Gympie Pipe Band, Girl Guides and Brownies, a girls’ hockey team, the Rainbow Beach Ladies Auxiliary, Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club, a girls fife band, and a karate club. You can see Gympie Youth Week banner above the march.
At the end of the video is Mayor Ron Witham standing in the Memorial Park Bandstand. You can also see Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, who at that time was minister for works and housing, but also served as acting minster for police, Aboriginal and Island Affairs, local government and conservation and labour and industry.
