Early Social Celebrations

There was not a moment to be missed for a celebratory picnic or social gathering in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s in our region. From dignitary visits to the coronations of the King and Queen, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Gympie’s Jubilee (50 years since the Gold Rush), victory and peace picnics after World War I, excursions on the Railway to picnic beyond, school breakup picnics, and patriotic days such as Wattle Day.
