Billed as one of the ”biggest event’s in Gympie’s history”, the Gympie airport at Kybong was opened on 7 May 1966 by the Federal Minister for aviation, Mr R.W. Swartz at 2pm.
The airport was built for a cost of $219,000 by a partnership of the Commonwealth, Queensland Government and Aerodrome Board.
